BAKER’S CYST

A baker’s cyst, also known as a popliteal cyst, is a ganglion cyst arising from the knee joint.  It usually presents as a swelling posteriorly locate between the semimembranous and medial gastrocnemius head.  It is usually representative of underlying prior damage to the joint such as osteoarthritis or a meniscal injury.
Below you can see an example of a large posteromedial Baker’s cyst in this patient’s left knee:
